A Field Guide to American Cultural Complexes with Thomas Singer, MD

January 28, 2026

Author Spotlight | Offered Live via Zoom

Program Description

Pacifica Extension is honored to partner with Chiron Publications in spotlighting the newly released book A Field Guide to American Cultural Complexes: The Battleground of the Splintered American Psyche by renowned Jungian analyst Thomas Singer, MD—a timely and courageous exploration of the psychic fault lines shaping American culture today.

In this complimentary Author Spotlight conversation, Tom Singer joins Loralee M. Scott, MFA, Vice President of Institutional Advancement & Lifelong Learning at Pacifica Graduate Institute, for a depth-psychological dialogue on cultural complexes, collective trauma, projection, power, and the archetypal forces animating our current moment.

Drawing on Jungian psychology, cultural analysis, and decades of clinical insight, Singer offers a “field guide” for recognizing—and working consciously with—the often-unconscious complexes that polarize, possess, and fragment the American psyche. This author discussion will explore how depth psychology can help us see more clearly, hold complexity, and imagine new pathways toward integration.

This conversation is for therapists, scholars, educators, cultural workers, and anyone seeking to understand the soul of America at this critical threshold moment.
