Eternal Echoes: Erich Neumann’s Timeless Relevance to Consciousness, Creativity, and Evil

November 19, 2024

Free | Offered Live via Zoom

Program Description

Join us for this author spotlight with Nancy Furlotti as we discuss her book: Eternal Echoes: Erich Neumann’s Timeless Relevance to Consciousness, Creativity, and Evil, which explores the profundity of human nature and psychological development through the lens of Erich Neumann’s (1905-1960) expansive research. Prevalent themes explored encompass the issue of evil, the nature of consciousness, creativity, and the mystical experience. Neumann’s use of myth demonstrated his ideas, recognizing that these themes emerge from the archetypes.

Neumann was a student, close collaborator and life-long friend of C. G. Jung. He relocated from Berlin to Palestine in 1934 where he endured WWII, provoked intense and depthful research into topics that would occupy the rest of his life, as well as challenge Jung’s thinking.

His writings are valuable and pertinent for our understanding of human nature and the changing developments that have resulted in “the eruption of the shadow and psychic chaos in today’s world.” (Jerome Bernstein) Neuman is credited for coining the term “ego-Self axis” from his research on psychological stages of development from birth through old age. Featuring his active imagination watercolors, readers are presented with an intimate view into his own internal processes.
