The Way of the Archetypes, Volumes I, II, and III

Please join us as Dr Keiron Le Grice, co-chair of Pacifica’s Jungian and Archetypal Studies program, discusses his new multi-volume book publication: The Way of the Archetypes.

Series Description

A defining contribution to the fields of archetypal astrology and depth psychology, The Way of the Archetypes is Keiron Le Grice’s extensive, four-volume study of the place of archetypes—universal principles and powers—in our lives.

The Way of the Archetypes, Volume I: Universal Principles and Individuation

Laying the foundation for the astrological analysis to follow in volumes II to IV, in this first volume Le Grice illuminates the experience and function of the major Jungian archetypes, mapping these and other psychodynamic principles onto the pantheon of planets in astrology. He explains how an astrological understanding of archetypes can be invaluable for skillfully participating with the energies of the cosmos and navigating the different dimensions of what Carl Gustav Jung called the individuation process, leading to the discovery of life meaning, psychological transformation, and spiritual realization. Amidst the turbulence and confusion of our time, he proposes, “a deep engagement with the archetypes, mediated by astrology, can become a way of life, and a vehicle for the revelation of the mysteries of the psyche and the spirit.”

The Way of the Archetypes, Volume II: Saturn and Neptune in Psychology, Spirituality, and Culture

Drawing on a wealth of examples from psychology, philosophy, film, music, poetry, sports, and cultural history, in this second volume Le Grice explores the forms of expression of the astrological archetypes Saturn and Neptune. Moving from the Saturnian reality of death, time, maturation, judgment, and hard-earned wisdom to the Neptunian realm of idealism, imagination, fantasy, and spirituality, his analysis illuminates the array of themes and purposes associated with these principles in relation to the other planetary archetypes, and he explains their significance for furthering psychological growth and spiritual transformation on the way of individuation.

The Way of the Archetypes, Volume III: Pluto and Uranus in Psychology, Spirituality, and Culture

Drawing on illuminating examples from psychology, philosophy, film, music, television, literature, science, and history, in this third volume Le Grice explores the forms of expression of the astrological archetypes Pluto and Uranus. From instinctual compulsion, power drives, and encounters with the underworld of the unconscious, associated with Pluto, to the pioneering spirit, revolutionary urges, and awakening experiences, associated with Uranus, this volume shows how combinations of these transpersonal principles with the other planetary archetypes manifest in the enduring patterns of personality and the shifting themes of biographical and collective experience. In so doing, it enables us to better recognize the deeper purposes and energies working through us, as we move along the way of individuation and spiritual realization.
